Greens Removals Guide to Living in Epping

Removals in Chelmsford | Removal Company Chelmsford

Epping is a beautiful market town in Essex. Despite being the Central Line’s terminus, the town is surrounded by Epping Forest and working farmland, which means it has retained its rural quality. Being on the London Underground but also being a rural town is an attractive prospect for many residents moving to the area, as they can commute into the city on the tube every day.

As a Chelmsford Removals company, Greens Removals offer a wide range of services, including both domestic and commercial removals to Epping, Essex, East Anglia, the UK and further afield to Europe and the rest of the world.

History

Epping town has a lot of very old buildings, many of which are Grade I and II listed. In 1253, King Henry III conveyed the right to hold a weekly market in Epping, which helped it establish itself as a centre of trade.

The market has been running every Monday since then and cattle were still sold there until 1961. The population of Epping currently stands at around 11,500 people.

Transport Links

Epping is the eastern terminus for the Underground’s Central Line, which makes it easy for people to get into London for work or leisure. The station has a car park with 508 spaces (the 2nd largest on the Tube network!)

The town also benefits from a reliable bus network, which serves many of the surrounding towns and villages, including Harlow, Brentwood, Ongar and Waltham Abbey. Main Line train services are available from nearby towns, including Roydon, Harlow and Waltham Cross.

Main Attractions

Epping Forest is a very popular destination for nature lovers and the general public alike, with a huge number of ancient trees and picturesque sunlit glades. At the forest, you can visit Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge or explore the historical remains of two large Iron Age forts.

Another interesting historic attraction in Epping is Copped Hall. This is a beautiful Georgian mansion with history dating as far back as the 12th century. Although it is currently under restoration, it is open for public open days and guided tours on selected days.

For those who like to spend time playing golf, the area is home to Epping Golf Course, which offers a high-quality, 18-hole course at affordable prices.

Education

The range of good schools in Epping makes it a popular place to raise young children. Although Epping only has one secondary school – St John’s Church of England Voluntary Controlled School – it is held in high regard and is now designated as a specialist engineering college.

The other schools in Epping are primary schools: Coopersale Hall School, Ivy Chimneys Primary School, Epping Primary School and Coopersale and Theydon Garnon C.E. Primary School.

Shops & Businesses

Epping town centre has a fantastic range of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars. The shopping choice includes all the usual chains and boutique shops you would expect from a modern high street, including coffee shops, department stores, supermarkets, Argos and several much-loved traditional pubs and restaurants.
