About Basildon

Basildon was designed as an overspill town after the Second World War to accommodate the rising population in the capital. The new town was an amalgamation of four villages including Basildon, from which the town takes its name.

The train journey into Central London from one of Basildon's three railway stations takes between 36 minutes to just under an hour, so many of those who live in the town work in the capital. Basildon is also linked by road to London via the A127 and A13.
